Mesotherapy: Abolishing Fat and Wrinkles
Mesotherapy is a procedure that involves a series of injections
consisting of extracts from various homeopathic and pharmaceutical
agents, combined with specific vitamins, over a period of several
sessions. It is typically used to eliminate fat deposits and cellulite
from different areas of the body, addressing particular body shape
issues. In conjunction with certain medications, it can reduce facial
wrinkles and sagging skin associated with aging. It is known to aid
in weight loss, and can alleviate certain pain conditions. One of
the greatest advantages of mesotherapy is that it does not include
invasive surgery.
Side Effects
As with any type of medical procedure, including injections, there
are potential side effects. Mesotherapy for weight loss and aging
skin issues can produce various negative results. Different reactions
occur in different individuals; each case is distinct. Any side effects
should be viewed as serious and taken into consideration before undergoing
mesotherapy. A person may experience some, none, or all of the symptoms
listed below.
- Bruising
- Permanent scarring
- Skin deformation
- Painful knots under the skin
- Local allergic reactions
- Swelling and pain
- Infections (sometimes caused by non-sterile equipment and/or
unsanitary premises)
Injections
Injections for mesotherapy can be administered many times to different
areas of the body, during one session. The needle, which is typically
a smaller-bore needle, is inserted slightly below the skin, into the
mesoderm layer, causing minimal pain and discomfort; nevertheless,
anaesthetic can be used if requested. Along with the anaesthetic to
eliminate certain discomfort, specific compounds such as muscle relaxants,
hormones, and fat reducing agents could be included. In order to obtain
satisfactory results, more than one session is usually required; in
some cases, up to ten treatments are recommended, with short rest
periods of a week or two between each session. It should be noted
that even though the injected compounds have been approved for use
on humans, mesotherapy is not considered part of allopathic medicine
and is not approved for those types of treatment.
Costs
Mesotherapy can be an expensive investment. If you typically go for
ten treatments and the cost per treatment is in the low range, you
could well spend over $2,000, this being for one section of your body.
The cost of the overall procedure depends on the extent of the treatment,
and the size of each area to be treated (large areas entail high costs).
The initial consultation fee could be up to $450, and is usually requested
at the time of consultation. Here are some of the different factors
involved in the cost:
- How many treatment sessions will be required?
- What areas will be treated?
- How extensive will each treatment be?
Although you may not be able to obtain an accurate accounting of
your final bill, getting an estimate is advisable, and should be made
available to you. Taking into account that mesotherapy is relatively
safe and produces positive results in many cases, you may find that
it is one of the least expensive treatments of this type.
